How does a young girl with a simple crochet hook turn her passion into an art celebrated around the world?

Sheba’s journey began at just 9 years old in Martinique. What was once a compulsory activity for young girls on the island soon became her joy, her way of creating beauty with her own hands.

At 16, Sheba embraced the Rastafari movement—a powerful turning point in her life. At a time when society rejected and even persecuted Rastas, she chose courage over fear. She became vegan, grew her locks, and began crafting hats for her community—symbols of strength, unity, and freedom. With tools gifted by her best friend, she poured her heart into every stitch.

Soon, her creations were being sold in local Rasta shops. What started as a small act of love and resilience grew into a movement of its own. Crochet became her voice, her way of standing tall against the world’s challenges.

Her journey carried her across islands and continents—St. Martin, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Barbados, Cameroon, Ghana, Ethiopia. Everywhere she went, Sheba carried not only her crochet but also the values of Rastafari and Pan-Africanism: a return to the roots, a celebration of culture, and the belief that handmade art is a living expression of the soul.

From colorful hats to purses, sweaters, and one-of-a-kind accessories, Sheba transformed crochet into something bigger than craft: a way to connect people across oceans.

When life led her to France, far from her beloved Martinique, Sheba didn’t stop. Instead, she reinvented. She created her signature headwraps—simple, stylish, easy to tie, and loved not only by the Rasta community but also by anyone who values authenticity and originality.

With a perfectionist’s eye and a deep love for detail, Sheba expanded her reach online. By 2010, her creations were traveling further than she ever imagined: to the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, and beyond.

L’Histoire de Sheba

Tout a commencé en Martinique.
À seulement 9 ans, Sheba apprend le crochet, une activité que l’on imposait aux filles de l’île. Ce qui aurait pu n’être qu’une obligation est vite devenu pour elle une passion, un moyen de s’exprimer et de créer avec ses mains.

À 16 ans, sa vie prend un tournant décisif. Elle rejoint le mouvement Rastafari, alors encore marginalisé. Ce choix fort la transforme : elle devient vegan, porte ses locks fièrement et se consacre à la confection de bonnets pour sa communauté. Son amie, ne pouvant plus crocheter par peur de son père, lui transmet ses outils. Avec courage, Sheba reprend le flambeau et propose ses créations dans une boutique Rasta.

C’était le début d’une ascension.
De la Martinique à Saint-Martin, puis de l’Afrique à la Caraïbe, Sheba voyage, découvre, partage et perfectionne son art. Chaque pays, chaque rencontre nourrit son inspiration. Elle crée des pièces uniques : bonnets, sacs, gilets, vêtements… Plus qu’un savoir-faire, elle développe une signature, empreinte de liberté, de panafricanisme et de fierté identitaire.

Mais l’histoire ne s’arrête pas là.
Quand la vie la mène en France, Sheba refuse d’abandonner son héritage. C’est là qu’elle invente le Headwrap : simple, élégant, facile à nouer. À sa grande surprise, il séduit bien au-delà de la communauté Rasta. Peu à peu, ses créations voyagent dans le monde entier, portées avec amour des États-Unis au Canada, en passant par l’Europe, la Jamaïque et les Antilles.

Aujourd’hui, Sheba continue de tisser des liens à travers ses créations. Chaque pièce est un hommage à ses racines, à la liberté d’être soi, et à l’art de transformer un fil en une œuvre vivante.
